Suspected Organ Harvesting: Imo Police Declare Mortuary Owner Wanted as Families Retrieve Decomposed Bodies
A major breakthrough in crime fighting was recorded on Saturday as the Imo State Police Command intensified its clampdown on criminal networks allegedly involved in organ harvesting, kidnapping, and related violent activities. The development followed a disturbing discovery at a private mortuary in Umuhu, a community along the Owerri, Aba road in Ngor Okpala LGA.
The operation, which drew public attention across the state, uncovered gruesome evidence pointing to possible illegal human organ dealings and gross mishandling of corpses. Shocked relatives, upon arriving at the scene, were forced to retrieve the decomposing bodies of their loved ones under tense and emotional circumstances.
According to Trumpeta, the raid was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, who personally spearheaded the operation to unravel ongoing criminal activities linked to the wanted suspect, Stanley "Morocco" Oparaugo. Oparaugo, believed to be the owner of the property, is currently evading arrest and is suspected of running an underground criminal network.
The investigative team included top government officials and security stakeholders. These included Dr. Chioma Egu, Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ibeaja Okechukwu, Chief Pathologist of the Imo State Specialist Hospital, Mr. Henry Ikpe, Commander of the Ngor Okpala Vigilante Group, and Hon. Mrs. Chika Ibekwe, Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA. Their joint appearance at the scene underscored the seriousness of the allegations and the government’s commitment to dismantling any criminal cells operating within the state.
Upon entering the mortuary, officials were greeted by an appalling sight. Numerous decomposing and mutilated corpses were found crammed into rooms lacking proper storage facilities. Many of the bodies were in advanced stages of decay, raising questions about whether they had been deliberately tampered with.
The poor and unhygienic conditions further heightened suspicion that the mortuary was being used for illegal organ harvesting, a criminal practice that has been periodically reported in parts of the country.
Residents who gathered around the scene expressed shock and disbelief. Some lamented that they had previously entrusted the facility with the remains of their relatives, unaware of the alleged atrocities taking place inside.
Following the discovery, the Imo State Government immediately ordered that both the mortuary and a nearby hotel, also linked to the suspect, be sealed off indefinitely. Reports indicated that the hotel had been flagged in earlier intelligence briefs as a suspected hideout for kidnappers and violent criminals.
A subsequent search of Oparaugo’s residence by police operatives uncovered additional exhibits described as vital evidential materials. These items have been secured by forensic teams for detailed analysis.
Addressing the media after the operation, CP Danjuma vowed that the police would pursue the matter relentlessly.
"No stone will be left unturned. All collaborators and beneficiaries of this criminal network will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted," he stated.
He further assured residents of Ngor Okpala and surrounding communities that the Command remains committed to restoring safety and dismantling every criminal syndicate in the state.
The Police Command has officially declared Stanley Morocco Oparaugo wanted. Authorities are urging members of the public with credible information regarding his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600.
Residents were assured that all information would be treated with confidentiality, and that the case represents a renewed determination by the police to stamp out criminal operations threatening the peace and health of the community.
