Ibadan, Oyo State, was thrown into alarm on Thursday evening, December 4, 2025, following the reported kidnapping of Mrs. Ibukun Otesile, the 2025 President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ibadan Elite. Otesile, a mother of two, is also the daughter of Olalekan Babatunde, the founder and General Overseer of Jesus Is King Ministries, Ibadan.
The abduction reportedly occurred at around 8:00 pm in front of her home in the General Gas area of Akobo. News of the incident quickly spread across social media, generating widespread concern among residents, religious leaders, and community members.
Olamide Olanrewaju, Personal Assistant to Apostle Joshua Sola Akinyemiju, outgoing chairman of the Oyo State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), confirmed the incident, explaining that the alert was immediately circulated through the CAN WhatsApp group. “Everyone in the group became worried and started saying, ‘Prayer, prayer, prayer.’ Religious leaders and everyone else were praying. But I also tagged Rev. Moses, the Chaplain of the Police Force Headquarters in Oyo State, to ensure immediate action,” Olanrewaju said.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping, with Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso stating, “She was kidnapped on Thursday night. Investigation is ongoing.” CAN has appealed to the Nigerian Army Headquarters and the Nigeria Police Force to deploy all available resources for her safe and immediate recovery.
Residents and well-meaning Nigerians have also joined the call for urgent action. A concerned resident said, “The family, along with CAN and all well-meaning Nigerians, earnestly requests that information about her whereabouts be shared widely and relayed to the appropriate security authorities.”
As of now, no details have emerged regarding the kidnappers, their motives, or any ransom demands. Authorities continue to investigate while the community remains on high alert, praying for the safe return of Mrs. Ibukun Otesile.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Ibadan, raising urgent questions about security measures in residential neighborhoods and the protection of prominent community figures.
