At least 12 Tomahawk missiles were launched against terrorist targets in Sokoto State by the United States military on December 25, 2025.
Rep. Riley M. Moore, the lawmaker representing Virginia’s Second District in Congress, confirmed the development during an interview with Fox News. According to reports, the operation was conducted on Christmas night, targeting extremist groups operating in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North West region.
While some security analysts initially claimed that the strikes were largely ineffective, landing in areas such as farmlands with no known terrorist activity, emerging details suggest that the joint operation between the U.S. military and its Nigerian counterparts successfully neutralized several key terrorists.
Moore said, “This year, thanks to President Trump, Radical Islamic Terrorists were on the receiving end of 12 Tomahawk missiles as a present. The successful strikes on ISIS, in coordination with the Nigerian government, are just the first step to secure the country and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
The airstrikes have caused widespread panic among residents of Sokoto State, with many taking shelter after hearing the explosions. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm, assuring the public that the strikes were carefully planned to minimize civilian casualties while dismantling terrorist strongholds.
Intelligence reports revealed that the targeted areas were being used as assembly points and staging grounds by terrorists infiltrating Nigeria from neighboring Sahel regions. The coordinated action underscores the growing collaboration between Nigeria and international partners in counterterrorism efforts, aimed at preventing large-scale attacks and ensuring the security of vulnerable communities.
Security experts say that while immediate results are visible in the disruption of terrorist networks, sustained intelligence-led operations and constant surveillance are crucial to maintaining long-term peace in North West Nigeria.
The operation comes amid ongoing concerns over terrorist attacks and insurgent activities in the region, highlighting the urgent need for a combined approach involving local authorities and international allies to protect citizens and secure the country’s borders.
