Police Arrest Popular TikToker Peller Over Reckless Driving, Road Crash

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikTok influencer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a reckless driving incident that resulted in a road crash.

The arrest comes after a video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing widespread outrage and concern from Nigerians. In the footage, Peller was seen driving at a dangerously high speed before losing control of his vehicle and crashing while livestreaming the act online. The incident raised serious questions about public safety and the growing trend of risky stunts by social media influencers.

The Lagos State Police confirmed that the arrest followed the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025. According to the police, the influencer’s actions posed a serious threat to his own life and to other road users.

In an official statement, the police said the Lagos State Police Command had arrested and detained Habeeb Hamzat, also known as Peller, for further investigation after a viral video surfaced showing him driving recklessly and causing a dangerous road crash during a livestream. The police described the act as extremely dangerous and warned that it could have resulted in loss of lives.

The command stressed that such behaviour would not be treated lightly, regardless of an individual’s social status or online popularity. According to the police, Peller’s actions constituted a deliberate and reckless endangerment of lives, including those of innocent road users.

Authorities disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation. The police assured that the process would be transparent and handled strictly in line with the law. They added that the outcome of the investigation would be made public and that the suspect would be charged in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public. He cautioned against the misuse of online platforms to promote reckless, dangerous, or unlawful activities.

The commissioner emphasized that such lawlessness would no longer be tolerated and that the full weight of the law would be applied to offenders. He also urged all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and peace across the state.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of reckless driving in Lagos, where road accidents remain a major concern. Many Nigerians have called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to discourage motorists and online influencers from engaging in risky behaviour for social media attention.
