Police Arraign 13 Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Over Alleged Violation of Operating Hours
The Kano State Police Command has arraigned thirteen commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators before Magistrate Court Number 36 in Gyadi Gyadi for allegedly violating the state’s regulated operating hours. The enforcement follows the government’s directive aimed at improving security and reducing late night movement across the city.
During the court session on Friday, the defendants were presented before the magistrate and formally charged. All thirteen individuals pleaded not guilty to the allegations. According to the charge sheet, the operators were arrested at different locations within the metropolis after allegedly operating beyond the approved hours set by the state authorities.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Nura Abdullahi Fagge, argued that the police must present the motorcycles that were seized from the operators, stating that the vehicles form a crucial part of the evidence before the court. He insisted that without producing them, the defendants’ rights were being affected and proper defence could not be prepared.
The prosecution requested more time to respond to the application raised by the defence counsel. The prosecutor noted that the issues brought before the court required proper examination before further steps could be taken.
Presiding Magistrate Rakiya Tanko adjourned the matter to January 6, 2026, for continuation of the hearing. She also granted the defendants bail, reminding all parties to be prepared for the next session. The case is expected to determine the extent of compliance with state regulations on commercial transport operations and could set a precedent for similar enforcement actions in the future.
