Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has confirmed that he will contest the 2027 general election and has ruled out any possibility of serving as a vice presidential candidate.
Obi made the announcement on Sunday night during an interactive session on X Spaces, where he spoke on national issues and his political future.
The Labour Party chieftain said his years of political engagement, business experience and exposure to global governance practices were aimed at preparing him to lead Nigeria and not to occupy a subordinate office.
“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice President,” Obi said.
He maintained that he possesses the competence and experience required to address Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges, citing his background as a successful businessman and former state governor.
“I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President,” he stated.
Obi also confirmed that he would appear on the ballot in 2027 and called on Nigerians to support his ambition through prayers and active participation.
“Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers,” he added.
Obi was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, where he emerged as one of the leading contenders and enjoyed strong support among young voters and urban populations across the country.
His declaration is expected to influence early political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections as political parties and aspirants begin to position themselves.
