Senior Pastor Chris Okafor has described attacks against churches and religious leaders as spiritual assaults rather than ordinary human actions, insisting that such incidents go beyond personal criticism and are directed at the Christian faith and its followers.
The pastor made the remarks during a church service following controversy surrounding audio recordings released by social media commentator VeryDarkMan. The recordings allegedly feature a woman identified as Pastor Okafor’s daughter making serious accusations against him, a development that has sparked widespread debate and reactions across social media platforms.
Addressing his congregation, Pastor Okafor stated that anyone who attacks a man of God is operating as a demon on assignment. According to him, such actions are not merely human attacks but spiritual schemes aimed at destabilising the church and weakening the spiritual wellbeing of believers.
He referenced the biblical phrase, strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter, explaining that persecution of religious leaders often has far reaching consequences for church members. He argued that attacks on pastors should not be viewed in isolation, as they ultimately affect congregants who rely on spiritual leadership for guidance, support and direction.
Pastor Okafor further stressed that when a pastor he described as genuinely innocent is persecuted, it is not only an attack on the individual but also an attack on the blessings and divine help meant for church members. He said prophets are placed among people to help them navigate challenges in life, and targeting them amounts to disrupting that spiritual assistance.
“When you see a person attacking a man of God, that person is not just a human being, that person is a demon on assignment,” he said. “When you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter. It is not just about the shepherd, it is also about the people that the shepherd carries.”
He added that such attacks directly affect church members, noting that blessings, protection and spiritual help connected to religious leadership are often the true targets of persecution. According to him, attacking a pastor is equivalent to attacking the congregation’s faith and destiny.
The pastor’s comments have continued to generate mixed reactions online, with supporters defending his position and critics questioning his response to the allegations circulating on social media. Some observers have called for a thorough and transparent examination of the claims, while others argue that religious leaders should be protected from what they describe as coordinated attempts to discredit them.
As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by Pastor Okafor specifically addressing the allegations contained in the audio recordings. The matter remains the subject of intense public discussion, highlighting broader conversations about accountability, faith and the role of religious leadership in society.
