A 38 year old grilled fish seller, Victor Fajemirokun, has confessed to conspiring with a herbalist and his apprentice in the killing of a senior Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Funmilayo Lasisi, and her 12 year old daughter in Osun State.
Fajemirokun, who is based in Osogbo, admitted during police interrogation that he was in a romantic relationship with the victim. He revealed that he lured Funmilayo and her daughter to the home of a herbalist in Ijebu Jesa after being told that the woman was allegedly responsible for the “delay in his destiny.”
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, explained that Victor was initially reported missing on November 2. His vehicle was later found abandoned at Ikoyi along the Ibadan Ife Expressway, prompting further investigation.
As officers dug deeper, their findings led to the arrest of a well known herbalist in the area, Gboyega Daramola, popularly known as Aberefa. During interrogation, Daramola confessed that Victor had brought the woman and her daughter to his shrine, where they were killed for a money ritual.
On November 17, the herbalist led investigators to the Esa Odo Dam, where the remains of the victims had been dumped. Police reported that vital body parts were missing, confirming suspicions that the killings were ritual related.
The breakthrough led to the arrest of another suspect, Sunday James, an apprentice of the herbalist. James confessed to carrying out the killings under threats from his boss.
Victor told police that prior to the incident, he had consulted an Alfa, who claimed Funmilayo was spiritually obstructing his progress. Seeking further help, he approached the herbalist, who instructed him to bring her for rituals. He then lured the woman and her child to the shrine, where the crime was committed.
After the killings, Victor fled from Ijebu Jesa to Ikoyi, then abandoned his car and escaped to Ibadan. From there, he travelled to Ghana, where he was eventually tracked, arrested, and repatriated to Nigeria.
The herbalist corroborated Victor’s account and admitted to coordinating the act. His apprentice also confessed to personally carrying out the killings on the instruction of his master.
CP Gotan stated that efforts are currently underway to arrest other apprentices who fled the scene. All suspects will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
The Commissioner assured the public that the police remain committed to uncovering the full extent of the crime and ensuring justice for the victims.
