Armed bandits on Sunday night attacked Baidi village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, shooting one resident and forcing many others to flee their homes in fear.
The attack reportedly occurred during the Isha night prayer, according to a security update shared on Monday by analyst Bakatsine on X.
Residents said the gunmen stormed the community late in the evening, firing gunshots that caused panic among worshippers and residents. During the attack, one person was shot, though the identity and medical condition of the victim were not immediately known.
The attackers were also said to have looted several shops in the village, carting away goods and valuables. In addition, a phone charging point, a key source of income and communication for residents, was raided by the gunmen before they left the area.
Following the incident, many residents reportedly abandoned their homes, seeking safety in neighbouring communities and nearby bush paths, amid fears that the attackers could return.
