Authorities in Kebbi State have rescued a four-year-old boy after he was allegedly kidnapped by his own mother, who has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The victim, Abdulmumini Surajo, went missing on November 26, 2025, in Koko Local Government Area. Later that day, his father received a phone call from an unknown female voice demanding a ransom of five million naira, N5,000,000, for the child’s release. The demand shocked the family and the local community, as the perpetrator was revealed to be someone very close to the child.
Security analysts and police detectives acted swiftly to trace the call. The investigation led authorities to Maryam Muhammad, 25, a married woman from the same area. She was promptly arrested and reportedly confessed to orchestrating the abduction. According to investigators, the case appears to stem from a personal dispute, though police are still probing the full motive behind the incident.
The boy was safely rescued on November 29, 2025, at approximately 6:08 p.m. in Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area, unharmed. Authorities praised the prompt action of law enforcement and called for increased vigilance among parents and guardians to prevent similar cases in the future.
This case has sparked discussions about child safety and parental responsibility in the region. Experts warn that disputes within families can escalate into serious criminal acts, putting innocent children at risk. The incident also highlights the need for public awareness campaigns and stronger community support structures to safeguard children from such dangerous situations.
Police have assured the public that further investigations will continue, and those found involved in similar offences will face strict legal consequences. The rescued child has since been reunited with his father, and authorities are working to provide support and counseling to the family after the traumatic experience.
