Nairobi. A forty eight year old woman is expected to appear in court following a shocking incident in which she allegedly pushed her twenty five year old boyfriend to his death from a fourteenth floor balcony in the Kilimani area. The disturbing case has sparked public concern and renewed discussions about rising domestic disputes and alcohol related violence in the city.
According to police reports, the suspect went to sleep immediately after the incident and claimed she had no knowledge of Owino’s fall until neighbours and police officers woke her later in the morning. Officers who arrived at the scene said the woman appeared confused and disoriented when they informed her of her boyfriend’s death.
The victim, identified as Lee Owino, was discovered lying on the rooftop of a parked salon car in the residential parking area. Security guards and residents said they were alerted by a loud thud shortly after dawn. When they rushed to the site, they found Owino’s body with severe injuries consistent with a fall from a significant height, including broken legs and multiple visible wounds. A video recorded by a resident and now circulating widely online shows his body on top of the vehicle moments after the fall. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether he died instantly.
Initial investigations show that Owino and the suspect had checked into the apartment on November twenty eight two thousand and twenty five for what was intended to be a quiet weekend together. However, the situation changed when a male friend joined the couple on Saturday. The three reportedly consumed large amounts of alcohol throughout the night and continued drinking until the early hours of Sunday morning. The woman later told investigators that the friend left the apartment shortly before the confrontation that led to Owino’s death.
Police officers state that an argument erupted between the couple after the friend’s departure. During the dispute, Owino allegedly assaulted the woman, leading to a violent struggle inside the apartment. Witnesses living in nearby units reported hearing raised voices, loud movement and objects being dragged across the floor. As the confrontation intensified, the woman is believed to have pushed Owino over the balcony railing. He fell several floors and landed on the roof of a parked vehicle, where he was later pronounced dead.
When officers entered the apartment, they recovered assorted prescription drugs, empty alcohol bottles and broken household items that indicated a fierce struggle had taken place. Detectives are now working to establish whether the substances found contributed to the events leading to the fatal encounter.
Owino’s body has been transferred to the mortuary, where a post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and whether he sustained any injuries before the fall.
Kilimani Police Commander Patricia Yegon confirmed that the suspect will be presented in court on Monday. Investigators are expected to request additional time to detain her as they continue piecing together the sequence of events. Yegon also revealed that officers are searching for the male friend who was with the couple earlier in the night, as he may provide crucial information to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Authorities have urged the public to remain patient as the investigation unfolds, emphasizing the need for a thorough and transparent inquiry into the shocking incident that has left the Kilimani community in disbelief.
