Kaduna Police Launch 24 Hour Joint Patrol on Kaduna Abuja Highway Ahead of Christmas and New Year Festivities
The Kaduna State Police Command has announced the deployment of a 24 hour joint patrol along the Kaduna Abuja Highway as part of intensified security measures for the Christmas and New Year festivities. The initiative is aimed at ensuring the safety of commuters and residents traveling along one of Nigeria’s busiest and most critical transit routes.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, explained that the patrols are designed to deter criminal activities, enhance police visibility, and reassure motorists and travellers of their safety throughout the festive period. The Kaduna Abuja Highway, which connects the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to several northern states, has historically been a hotspot for highway robberies and criminal attacks, making enhanced patrols a top priority for security agencies.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed all tactical commanders to conduct round the clock patrols and surveillance along the highway. The operations will be conducted in collaboration with the FCT Police Command, the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies to ensure comprehensive coverage along the corridor, including border areas between Kaduna State and the FCT. According to the statement, the coordinated patrols will focus on high risk areas, checkpoints, and critical traffic junctions, while also monitoring the movement of suspicious vehicles and individuals.
Authorities emphasized that the patrols are not only a seasonal measure but part of a sustained effort to maintain law and order along major highways in the state. Commissioner Muhammad assured travellers that the security arrangements would help prevent crime, facilitate smooth traffic flow, and provide rapid response to emergencies.
In addition, the Kaduna State Police Command urged the public to cooperate fully with security personnel during the operations and avoid spreading false or misleading information on social media that could cause unnecessary panic. Residents were advised to report any suspicious movements, armed groups, or unusual activity along highways to the nearest police station or through official security communication channels.
The command also highlighted that the joint patrols would include the use of modern surveillance technologies, mobile patrol units, and liaison with local vigilante groups to ensure maximum coverage. This comprehensive security approach, authorities said, underscores the government’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and maintaining peace across Kaduna State during the festive season and beyond.
Security operatives reiterated that travellers should exercise caution, drive safely, and remain vigilant while on the road. With the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching, the joint patrol is expected to enhance public confidence and significantly reduce incidents of highway crime, ensuring a safe and peaceful festive period for residents and commuters alike.
