Former Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, has passed away.
The former lawmaker died on Friday morning, with the news of his death confirmed by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a condolence message released through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former senator, describing it as a great loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The governor described Senator Nwaoboshi as a proud son of Delta State and a courageous defender of the Anioma cause, noting that his contributions to governance and nation-building would remain indelible.
He recalled the late senator’s impactful service in the National Assembly, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs. According to the governor, Nwaoboshi was a strong and consistent voice for the development of the Niger Delta region and Delta State in particular, earning him respect as a committed and passionate leader.
Governor Oborevwori further highlighted the senator’s political journey, stating that his rise to prominence was anchored on a rich political pedigree, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals. He also noted that Senator Nwaoboshi served meritoriously as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, contributing significantly to the growth of the party in the state.
The governor said:
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and all those whose lives he touched.
I pray that Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family, friends, and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is remembered for his firm political stance, advocacy for regional development, and years of service to Delta State and Nigeria.
