The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a major breakthrough following a coordinated operation by security personnel.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a press statement, noting that the operation involved police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Awkuzu, working closely with personnel from Neni Divisional Headquarters. The operation was part of a follow-up investigation into a case of conspiracy and armed robbery reported in the area.
According to SP Ikenga, the suspects were arrested in connection with acts of vandalism and theft at an international company located in Agulu. During the operation, the police recovered a pump action gun, ten live cartridges, and one black motorcycle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects were identified as Okemili Chikwado, 20 years, Collins Nwakpa, 23 years, Chukwuemeka Igboke, 18 years, Nwali Chinedu, 18 years, and Ekene Nwakwo, 22 years. Upon arrest and subsequent interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime. They also disclosed the identity of one Arinze, who they named as the major receiver of the stolen properties.
SP Ikenga assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend other fleeing suspects linked to the case. He emphasized that the police are committed to recovering all stolen and vandalized items and ensuring that those responsible face justice.
The operation underscores the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to tackling violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of residents and businesses in the state. Community members have expressed relief at the arrests, while authorities continue to appeal to the public to report suspicious activities to help curb crime in the area.
