Buhari’s Ex Aide Bashir Ahmad Says Peter Obi Is a Good Person but Surrounded by Spoilers Ahead of 2027
Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad triggered widespread debate on Thursday after claiming that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is a “good person” whose ambitions are being derailed by those around him. Ahmad, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, made the remarks in a post shared on his X account.
According to him, Obi’s inner circle and online supporters are harming the politician’s chances of achieving his presidential dream. Ahmad argued that if Obi’s followers sincerely wanted him to succeed, they would urge him to abandon his 2027 bid and instead support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete a second term.
“Peter is a good person, but the people around him will never allow him to achieve his dream,” he wrote.
Ahmad criticized what he described as “reckless content” posted by Obi’s associates and supporters on social media. He suggested that their public behavior could indicate even more problematic advice given to Obi in private.
“With this reckless content you post publicly, one can only imagine the kind of things you tell him privately,” he said.
He went on to advise Obi to “sacrifice today so that others can sacrifice for him tomorrow,” adding that the former Anambra governor should join Tinubu’s camp and wait until after 2031 to pursue his own ambitions.
“Tell him to come and join us. Let President Tinubu complete his mandate in 2031, and then the future remains open for everyone,” Ahmad wrote.
His comments come amid increasing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 election. Several major political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are reportedly strategizing to prevent President Tinubu from securing a second term. Ahmad’s remarks have further fueled ongoing debates about alliances, political loyalty, and the future of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
