Borno Police Rescue Two Kidnapped Boys and Thwart Ransom Attempt

The Borno State Police Command has successfully rescued two kidnapped boys, aged four and five, in Jan Bulo, Jere Local Government Area, in a swift operation that highlights the state’s ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crime.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Jere Police Divisional Headquarters received a report on Thursday that three children had gone missing, prompting an immediate and thorough investigation.

One of the kidnapped children was returned the same day to the entrance of his family home, accompanied by a threatening note demanding a ten million naira ransom for the release of the remaining two boys. The note heightened fears among residents and underscored the urgency for police intervention.

ASP Daso explained that the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a team of operatives who strategically laid an ambush at the proposed ransom collection point. Around 0300 hours on 5th December 2025, the abductors, realizing police presence, abandoned the remaining two boys along with a decoy ransom and fled the scene.

“Efforts to apprehend the suspects were unsuccessful due to poor visibility at the time. The two boys, however, were rescued unharmed and have been safely reunited with their family,” ASP Daso said, emphasizing the importance of careful planning in the operation.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet and intensive investigation to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. Additionally, all Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been directed to heighten patrols, conduct aggressive stop and search operations, and maintain high visibility policing across the state to curb the recent upsurge in violent crime.

The Police Command has also called on members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements immediately, and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure the safety of their communities.

This incident underscores the persistent challenges faced by security agencies in Borno State, where kidnappers and criminal gangs continue to pose threats to residents. It also highlights the dedication and swift response of the Borno State Police in protecting citizens and preventing potential tragedies, showing that strategic planning and community cooperation can save lives.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity that could help bring the suspects to justice.
