Armed Bandit Arrested After Gun Battle With Security Forces in Zamfara

An armed bandit has been arrested following a gun battle with security forces in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, as authorities intensify efforts to curb banditry and restore safety along major roads in the state.

The incident was disclosed on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X. According to the report, the confrontation occurred at about 4.55 p.m. on December 21 along the Tsafe to Yanwaren Daji feeder road, a key route frequently used by commuters, commercial drivers, and residents of surrounding communities.

Makama stated that a group of suspected bandits had mounted a road blockade along the route, disrupting vehicular movement and instilling fear among travellers. The situation reportedly persisted until a security patrol team arrived at the scene during a routine operation.

On sighting the security operatives, the armed men allegedly engaged them in a gun battle. The exchange forced the bandits to retreat into nearby bushes, with several of them believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation.

One of the suspects was apprehended during the operation and was identified as Umar Alhaji Buhari, popularly known by the alias Bingel. Details of any items recovered from the suspect were not immediately made public.

Following the operation, security personnel secured the area and cleared the road, allowing stranded motorists and other road users to resume their journeys without further obstruction.

The arrested suspect has since been handed over to the police at the Zamfara State Criminal Investigation Department in Gusau for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Zamfara State has remained one of the regions most affected by banditry in Nigeria, with repeated attacks on highways and rural communities. Security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to sustained patrols and intelligence driven operations to dismantle criminal networks, enhance public safety, and restore peace across the state.
