82-Year-Old Mississippi Woman Arrested After Fatally Shooting Boyfriend at Home

An 82-year-old woman from Sledge, Mississippi has been arrested and charged with murder after authorities said she fatally shot her longtime boyfriend during a domestic incident at their shared residence. The case has shocked the quiet Tunica County community and sparked renewed conversations about violence in intimate relationships involving elderly couples.

According to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a 911 call around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday reporting a shooting on Tibbs Road. The caller, later identified as Mattie Crockett, allegedly admitted during the call that she had shot her boyfriend, 75-year-old James Larry Jr.

When deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Larry suffering from a severe gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the home.

Following the incident, Crockett was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, as is standard in cases involving elderly individuals or potential medical concerns. After being cleared by medical staff, she was taken into custody and transferred to the Tunica County Jail.

At her first court appearance, a judge set her bond at 100,000 dollars. Authorities have not disclosed whether she has obtained legal representation or made any statements beyond the initial 911 call.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting. Officials have not confirmed a motive, nor have they revealed whether the couple had a history of disputes. The sheriff’s office is urging community members who may have information about the relationship or events leading up to the shooting to come forward.

The incident has left many residents stunned due to the ages of those involved and the rarity of such violent cases in the area. Authorities note that domestic violence can occur at any age, though cases involving individuals in their seventies and eighties are uncommon. As of now, no further details have been released, and investigators continue to build a clearer picture of what unfolded inside the couple’s home.
