Major General Henry Ayoola, a former Commander of the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, has stated that Nigerians should not panic over President Donald Trump’s threat to send American troops to fight terrorists in Nigeria.

According to a report by Punch on Sunday, November 9, 2025, General Ayoola said that on October 30, 2020, American forces entered Niger and Nigeria to rescue an American hostage, and no Nigerian life was lost during that mission. He explained that this shows such operations can be carried out carefully and successfully.

General Ayoola noted that some of those who do not want Trump to send military forces to Nigeria may actually be sympathizers or supporters of terrorist groups. He stated that if foreign help could speed up the fight against terrorism in Nigeria, it should be considered.
