‘We’re slaughtered like cows, Tinubu paid deaf ears’ – Catholic priest begs Trump to intervene in Nigeria
A Catholic priest, Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has appealed to former United States President Donald Trump to intervene in the rising insecurity and alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
Fada Angelo, in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of ignoring repeated pleas to address the worsening state of insecurity across the country.
According to the cleric, several citizens are being killed daily while those responsible for the violence continue to operate freely.
“We have been appealing to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu all this while to stop the killings,” he said. “He has all it takes to stop insecurity and injustice in Nigeria, but he paid deaf ears to our pleas. Humans are slaughtered daily like cows.”
The priest lamented that while terrorists and armed groups continue to attack innocent Nigerians, peaceful protesters and agitators are either being detained or killed by government forces.
He backed former President Trump’s earlier position on the situation in Nigeria, recalling when the United States under Trump designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious persecution. Trump had at the time warned that Washington could take military action to stop the killings.
In another post, Fada Angelo suggested that the survival of Christians and other vulnerable groups in Nigeria might depend on U.S. intervention.
“If the U.S. comes to our aid, the chances are 50/50, but if not, our doom is sealed,” he wrote. “And if the U.S. doesn’t come, who will help us? Donald J. Trump, please come quickly.”
The priest’s comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians supporting his call for international involvement, while others argue that Nigeria’s security challenges are complex and not solely based on religion.
