“We Called Him MD Back in ABU” – Ex-Classmate Reveals Unknown Details About Viral Naval Officer Yerima
A former classmate of the now viral naval officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima, has shared new details about the officer’s background, giving Nigerians a glimpse into his early life before joining the military.
Yerima made headlines earlier this week after a viral video captured him confronting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during a dispute over a property in Gaduwa, Abuja.
Reacting to the viral clip, a man identified as Aliyu Jalal, who studied at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, revealed on Facebook that he attended the same faculty as Yerima before the officer joined the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
According to Jalal, Yerima was known by the nickname “MD” during their university days. He described him as confident, fearless, and well known among students on campus.
“We called him MD back in ABU. Born and raised in Kaduna. We got admitted into the Faculty of Social Sciences the same year in 2011. He used to be tall and lanky and had a way with girls. He started Mass Communication before going to NDA,” Jalal wrote.
Jalal went on to praise Yerima’s courage during the recent altercation with the minister, noting that the naval officer embodied the qualities expected of a disciplined and professional soldier.
“Regardless of whose interest he was safeguarding, he demonstrated the discipline, bravery, and righteous fearlessness expected of a true soldier. Respect,” he added.
Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima’s bold stance during the confrontation continues to attract widespread attention, with many Nigerians commending his courage and professionalism in handling the situation.
