The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered an impressive performance on Thursday, defeating the Panthers of Gabon 4 to 1 in extra time in their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash at the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
Following a goalless first half, Akor Adams opened the scoring early in the second half after capitalising on a defensive error. Gabon, however, found an equaliser four minutes before full time, forcing the match into extra time.
Nigeria regained control during the extended period, with Chidera Ejuke restoring the lead through a calm and precise finish. Victor Osimhen then sealed the victory with two clinical goals, putting the Super Eagles firmly in command.
Defensively, Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey stood out, ensuring Gabon’s late attempts to mount a comeback were unsuccessful.
The convincing win moves Nigeria closer to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The final playoff round will determine whether the Super Eagles secure their place on football’s biggest stage.
