A United States-based organisation, Truth Nigeria, has revealed that it notified the Nigerian government and relevant security agencies of an impending attack in Yelwata village, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, days before the incident occurred on June 13, 2025.
Judd Saul, the founder of Truth Nigeria, in a viral video accused the Nigerian government and security agencies of complicity in the killing of Christians by Islamic terrorists operating across several states in the country. Nearly 300 people were killed in what has been described as a Christian massacre in Yelwata. The attackers, reportedly armed herdsmen, also destroyed and burnt houses, displacing many residents.
Speaking about the incident and media coverage in Nigeria, Saul accused the government of controlling the narrative around national events. He said, “There is Nigerian government complacency with these attacks. You saw some of our journalists in the documentary. We want to be the organisation that tells the truth about what is happening in Nigeria, hence truthnigerian.com. I want everybody to understand how Nigerian news works. If Nigerian government officials do not call a news conference, the event does not exist. To get coverage by mainstream media such as Al Jazeera or CNN, everything comes from a Nigerian government source. From the beginning, they determine the narrative and reporters regurgitate it.”
Saul further explained that Truth Nigeria’s mission is to document events across the country with facts and evidence, ensuring the world is aware of attacks on Nigerian Christians. “We decided to be a voice to help change that paradigm and created Truth Nigeria to document what is actually happening. How many people know that ten persons were killed in Kaduna just the other day? How many know that thirty Christians were killed in Plateau just a week ago? How many know that besides the 280 Christians killed in Yelwata on June 13, we are now at about 500 Christians killed since Yelwata? No one knows because the media is not reporting, and that is why we formed Truth Nigeria.”
Saul said that Truth Nigeria had intelligence about the planned Yelwata attack three weeks before it occurred and promptly informed the relevant government authorities. “When we received information about the planned attack, we issued a terror alert on our website, truthnigeria.com, and immediately called the local authorities, the Nigerian military, the DSS, and the government to let them know what we had discovered,” he said.
He lamented that despite multiple warnings, the Nigerian government and its security agencies took no action to prevent the massacre. Saul added, “A day before the attack, we were told that the attackers were mobilising and moving toward Yelwata. Our team notified the government, the local authorities, the Army, and the police. What happened? Absolutely nothing. The government stood by and did nothing. In fact, there is a military forward operating base with soldiers less than a kilometre away, and while the attacks were happening, they fired warning shots in the air but did not engage the terrorists. People were being burnt alive, hacked with machetes, and slaughtered while the soldiers did nothing.”
