Tragic Incident in Sokoto: 25-Year-Old Man Allegedly Kills His 15-Year-Old Wife After Domestic Dispute
The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Sufiyanu Aliyu, from Gwanyal Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly stabbing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, to death following a domestic argument that turned violent.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the incident occurred on October 27, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. Police operatives reportedly received a distress call and immediately moved to the scene of the crime. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the teenage victim had sustained severe knife wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
DSP Rufai stated that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect used a knife during a heated argument with his wife. The weapon, believed to have been used in the attack, was recovered at the scene as evidence.
He added that the suspect has confessed to the crime and has since been charged to court. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Sokoto for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, while commending officers for their swift action, expressed sadness over the incident. He assured residents of Sokoto that the command remains committed to protecting lives, ensuring justice for victims, and preventing future occurrences of gender-based violence.
