Limassol, Cyprus: Police have arrested five suspects in connection with the premeditated murder of 30-year-old Nigerian woman, Victory Osarumen Thompson, in Limassol, marking one of the most shocking violent incidents in the city this year.
Thompson was discovered dead in her Germasogeia flat on Sunday, November 9, 2025. According to Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou, the authorities received a call from the ambulance service at approximately 10:30 a.m., reporting the woman’s death. Officers arrived at the scene to find Thompson suffering injuries consistent with severe physical assault. Investigators later told the Limassol District Court that she appeared to have been brutally beaten with a broomstick.
Three female suspects, believed to be Nigerian nationals, were present at the scene and taken into custody. They appeared before the Limassol District Court on Monday, November 10, where they were detained for eight days on suspicion of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The investigation deepened on Tuesday, November 11, when police arrested two additional suspects, a couple also from Nigeria. The couple, aged 30 and 31, were allegedly present during the incident, reportedly used force against the victim, and then fled the scene with the victim’s mobile phone. The man was detained in Nicosia, while the woman was held in Limassol. Both are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court for a remand hearing.
Police confirmed that new witness statements are reinforcing suspicions that Thompson’s killing was premeditated. Neighbors reported hearing loud and violent arguments in the hours before her death, details which forensic experts say align with the injuries found at the scene.
Authorities revealed that all five suspects are asylum seekers, with one having a previously rejected application and the others still pending. The on-site autopsy showed multiple signs of physical abuse, prompting the authorities to immediately treat the case as a homicide. A large number of items, including a broken broomstick used in the attack, were collected as evidence and sent for forensic examination to help determine the motive and exact circumstances surrounding Thompson’s death.
According to statements given to police, the suspects claimed that the victim had been in an “out of control” state, potentially due to drug use, when they returned to the flat at around 5:00 a.m. They alleged that Thompson attacked them first, and they used force to restrain her, which resulted in her fatal injuries. One of the female suspects admitted in a written statement that she struck Thompson with a broomstick, even after the victim had fallen to the ground.
The Criminal Investigation Department continues to collect witness statements, forensic evidence, and other materials as part of a thorough ongoing investigation. Authorities are also investigating whether the attack involved additional individuals or other prior disputes, as well as seeking to understand the motive behind this brutal killing.
The case has sparked widespread attention in Cyprus, raising concerns about violence within asylum seeker communities and the treatment of vulnerable residents. Police and community leaders have urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation proceeds, emphasizing that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
As the legal process unfolds, the Limassol District Court will review the detention and remand of the suspects, while forensic and investigative teams continue their meticulous work to piece together the exact sequence of events leading to Thompson’s tragic death.
