A thirty eight year old woman, Oduah Cassandra, has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates Court for allegedly assaulting a man, Bassey Ekong Inyang, by striking him on the head with a flower vase during a heated altercation in Victoria Island.
The incident occurred on 7 October 2025 at Agoro Odiyan Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. According to reports, the Police did not disclose the cause of the disagreement between the suspect and the complainant. Investigators alleged that Cassandra struck the victim with a flower vase, inflicting injuries on his head.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police through the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command. Officers subsequently arrested Cassandra and detained her for interrogation. After questioning, investigators concluded that her actions amounted to an offence under Section 173 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015, which prescribes several years of imprisonment for assault occasioning harm. The case was handled by DSP Nosa Uhumwanchu of the Gender Unit.
The charge presented to the court stated that Cassandra assaulted Inyang at her residence at about five in the morning by hitting him with a flower vase and causing him bodily harm.
Cassandra pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, requested that the court set a hearing date so the prosecution could present evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. O. Kusanu granted the defendant bail under conditions that require her sureties to provide proof of livelihood and evidence of tax payments. The court also directed that the addresses of the sureties be verified before the bail would take effect.
The matter was adjourned for mention, and Cassandra was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions. Residents in the area note that the case has generated considerable public interest as authorities continue to probe the events that led to the confrontation.
