Two-time Guinness World Record holder, media personality, and philanthropist Tacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has spoken out strongly against the culture of victim-blaming and violence toward women in Nigeria.
The reality TV star expressed frustration over how society often reacts to women who speak up about abuse. She wrote that being a woman in Nigeria “feels like a crime.”
“Being a woman in this part of the world feels like a crime. Someone cries out that she’s been raped, drugged, and beaten, and instead of outrage, society starts dragging her for flying private jets and traveling the world,” Tacha stated.
Tacha criticized the hypocrisy of those who envy women’s success yet fail to show empathy when they face violence or exploitation.
“So because she lived well, she deserves to be abused? That’s the sickness of this society a place where people justify violence against women but envy their freedom,” she lamented.
The outspoken activist concluded her post with a somber reflection on the fear and hopelessness experienced by many young women in the country.
“At this point, what hope does the girl child even have?” she asked, adding the hashtags #ProtectWomen and #JusticeForReginaDaniels to her message.
Her comments have since gained widespread attention online, with fans and women’s rights advocates praising her for using her platform to highlight gender-based violence and the double standards women face in Nigerian society.
