A Nigerian man, Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, suspected of being responsible for the deaths of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Superintendent Route Commander Lasisi Funmilayo Oluwamayokun, and her daughter, Sewa Lasisi, has been arrested in Ghana.
The arrest was confirmed by the Eastern South Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service during a press briefing on Sunday. A video of the briefing was shared by Ghanaian media outlet Channel One TV.
According to the Regional Commander, George Ohene-Boadi, Fejemirokum was apprehended at a friend’s residence where he had been hiding after allegedly fleeing Nigeria. He explained that the arrest followed intelligence reports indicating that the suspect had crossed into Ghana to evade Nigerian authorities.
Ohene-Boadi said the police tracked the suspect after intercepting a viral video circulating online, which alleged that he had abducted and killed the FRSC officer and her teenage daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He stated, “The suspect was wanted by the Nigerian Police but he ran to Ghana to hide with his friend at Akyem Wenchi, a suburb of Akwatia. Following credible information on his location, our officers conducted an intelligence-led operation and arrested him in his hideout.”
The commander added that arrangements were underway to hand Fejemirokum over to Nigerian authorities for further investigation.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and frantic efforts are underway to repatriate him to Nigeria,” he said.
Lasisi, aged 39, and her daughter were declared missing on the morning of Sunday, November 2, after leaving their home at the Obasanjo Hilltop Estate in Abeokuta. Efforts by family members and colleagues to reach them were unsuccessful.
Oluwamayokun, who served as a senior operational officer in the FRSC, was responsible for overseeing multiple routes and coordinating enforcement operations.
The Ogun State Police later confirmed that their disappearance led to a full-scale investigation, which eventually resulted in the discovery of their bodies at a suspected herbalist’s compound in Osun State.
Authorities in both countries continue to collaborate as the case progresses.
