Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Ned Nwoko of masterminding the arrest and unlawful imprisonment of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Friday, November 7, 2025, Sowore alleged that Senator Nwoko, whom he described as a “so-called criminal billionaire and APC Senator,” used his political influence in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to detain Sammy West at the Keffi Correctional Centre in Nasarawa State.
According to Sowore, Sammy West’s arrest stems from a lingering personal dispute involving Senator Nwoko and his “now-temporarily estranged wife,” Regina Daniels. Reports suggest that the disagreement escalated into a family and legal confrontation, during which Nwoko allegedly leveraged his connections within the police hierarchy to target Regina’s younger brother.
“The victim in this latest act of tyranny is Samuel Ojeogwu, the younger brother of Nwoko’s now-temporarily estranged wife, Regina Daniels,” Sowore stated, describing the incident as yet another example of the “unholy alliance of impunity” between powerful political figures, certain elements within the Nigeria Police Force, and pliant magistrates.
He further expressed concern that the alleged misuse of state power and manipulation of law enforcement agencies by influential politicians continues unchecked, despite repeated public outcry.
Sowore called on the Nigeria Police Force to “immediately put an end to this brigandage” and release Sammy West without delay, urging that all “bogus charges” against him be withdrawn.
