Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, when a househelp allegedly stabbed her employer’s seven-year-old daughter to death before taking her own life. The incident occurred in the Agip Estate area of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Police confirmed the development on Thursday, describing it as a tragic event that is currently under investigation.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed that the case was reported by the child’s mother, Glory Joseph, a resident of No. 21 Okabia Street, Agip Estate, Rumueme.
According to Iringe Koko, “On 25th November 2025, one Glory Joseph reported at the station that her daughter, Alicia Olajumoke, aged seven years, was stabbed to death at about 2:00 p.m. by one Success, female, surname yet to be confirmed. The suspect reportedly went to the school of the deceased, picked her up, took her to the house, and stabbed her to death. She also inflicted a stab wound on her own throat.”
The officer added that the scene of the crime was visited by police personnel and photographs were taken for documentation. Both the victim and the suspect were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
The body of the deceased child has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation. Preliminary findings are ongoing, and the police have promised to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are working to establish the motive behind the attack while the community grapples with the horror of the incident.
Local residents described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking, emphasizing the need for stricter supervision and safety measures for children. Child protection advocates note that incidents involving domestic workers remain a concern, highlighting the importance of background checks and monitoring for household employees.
“This tragic case underscores the urgent need for proper vetting and training of domestic staff,” said a child safety expert, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The investigation by SCID is expected to uncover more details about the events leading up to the tragedy, including the suspect’s motive and circumstances. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm while the inquiry continues.
