Regina Daniels’ Family Gives Ned Nwoko 48-Hour Ultimatum to Accept Bride Price or Face Traditional Dissolution
Relatives of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels from the Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State have reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum to her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, demanding that he accept the refund of her bride price or face a traditional dissolution of the marriage.
The demand was contained in an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of the Ogwashi-Uku community. In the letter, the family accused the billionaire politician of “disregarding long-standing cultural norms” and “using political power to intimidate” members of Regina’s extended family amid their ongoing marital dispute.
Under Ogwashi-Uku customary law, a woman is considered free from marriage once her family formally returns the bride price paid for her hand. The Daniels family claims to have attempted the refund several times, but allege that Senator Nwoko has repeatedly refused to accept it, thereby preventing the customary dissolution of the union.
“We have made several peaceful attempts to return the bride price, but Senator Ned Nwoko has refused to accept it. According to our customs, once the money is laid at Ikeleke Quarter, the marriage is considered null and void,”
the statement read in part.
The family further stated that if Nwoko continues to reject the refund, they would publicly deposit the bride price at Ikeleke Quarter, a symbolic act in Ogwashi-Uku tradition that marks the formal end of a marriage.
In the same statement, the actress’s kinsmen condemned the alleged arrest of Regina’s siblings, describing it as “a deliberate show of oppression and misuse of power.”
They called on law enforcement agencies to ensure the immediate release of the detained individuals, while urging the senator to respect local customs and allow for a peaceful resolution of the matter.
“No one is above the laws and customs of our land,” the family warned. “We call on Senator Nwoko to act with dignity and allow this matter to be resolved peacefully in accordance with our ancestral traditions.”
As of press time, Senator Ned Nwoko had not issued any public response to the allegations or the ultimatum.
