Authorities in Ilorin, Kwara State, have opened an investigation into the killing of a hotel receptionist who was found strangled while on night duty. The incident has sparked fear among hospitality workers in the city, particularly those who work overnight shifts.
The victim, identified only as Yemi, was discovered dead in the reception area of the hotel during the early hours of Sunday. According to a report published by Punch on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the case was first reported to the police by the hotel manager, who found her lifeless body.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. She said officers from the A Division responded to the scene, where they recovered a white cloth believed to have been used to strangle the victim.
The hotel manager, identified as Akin, told reporters that he became alarmed after noticing several missed calls from the hotel’s official line. When he returned the call, he was met with a strange voice warning him not to call back. He immediately rushed to the hotel and discovered Yemi lying on the floor before alerting authorities.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, ordered detectives to take over the case and ensure that the perpetrator is identified and brought to justice. The police command also assured residents that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
The killing has renewed concerns about security measures in hotels across Ilorin, especially for workers on night shifts who are often left alone with limited protection. Authorities have urged hotel operators to strengthen safety protocols while investigations continue.
