Pastor Scolds Son for Appearing With Dreadlocks at His Shop, Video Sparks Reactions

A young Nigerian man has stirred conversation online after sharing a viral TikTok video showing his father’s reaction to his new dreadlock hairstyle at the family shop in Katangwa, Anambra State.

The video captures the moment the young man walked into his father’s shop, proudly displaying his dreadlocks. His father, a pastor, appeared visibly displeased and immediately rebuked him. He compared his son’s appearance to that of a mad man and warned that such a look could affect the family’s reputation within the Katangwa market community.

Responding in Igbo, the young man defended the hairstyle, saying it was created specifically for a shoot and was not intended to disrespect his father or anyone in the market. He stressed that the look was part of his creative work and not a permanent change.

Despite the explanation, his father insisted that the shop was not the right place for such a display, noting that public perception matters, especially because he is a pastor and his son is known in the area.

The father reminded his son that his behaviour and appearance reflect on the family. He advised him to reserve such hairstyles for environments where people do not know him or where it would not affect their social image.

Son Clarifies in Comment Section

In the comment section of the video, the young man clarified that his father was not against the hairstyle itself.

He wrote, “My dad only reacted like that because I did not wear my cap as he told me to. He actually likes my hairstyle. I made my hair for a shoot, and he knows about it. He just does not like that I came to his shop with it.”

Social Media Reacts

The video has triggered a mix of reactions online, with some users supporting the father’s stance on reputation and public image, while others argued that the young man had the right to express himself creatively.
