The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, identified as Richard, for allegedly assaulting his 12-year-old stepdaughter in a case that left the young girl discharging maggots from her private parts.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect was arrested after the girl’s mother reported the incident. She explained that her daughter had been living with the suspect’s mother, and during one of his visits, he allegedly assaulted the girl by inserting his fingers into her private parts.
The victim’s mother revealed that she had previously left the marriage because of repeated physical abuse, but she did not take her daughter with her at the time. After settling in her new residence, she requested that her daughter be returned to her. Unfortunately, it was on the very day the suspect was supposed to bring the child back that the alleged assault took place.
When the mother finally received her daughter, she noticed a strong, disturbing odour. Upon examining the girl, she discovered maggots emerging from her private area. Shocked by the condition of her child, she immediately contacted the NSCDC for help.
Investigators also learned that the girl had been staying with the stepfather’s mother for some time, and it was during one of the suspect’s routine visits that he allegedly committed the act. Reports indicated that he had been consulting an herbalist for personal issues, raising further concerns during the investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed. He claimed that he had recently purchased a new motorcycle and had been drinking heavily to celebrate, blaming his actions on intoxication.
NSCDC officials confirmed that the girl was immediately taken to a hospital for urgent medical treatment due to the severity of her condition. Medical personnel are currently attending to her, while authorities continue their investigation.
Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo condemned the act and reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting minors. He warned that anyone who harms a child will face strict legal consequences and assured that the suspect will be prosecuted according to the law once all investigations are completed.
The case has sparked public outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures to protect children from abuse across the country.
