Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to tackling emerging security threats across the country, saying the president is “ahead of unfolding challenges.”
Onanuga made the statement on Sunday in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he shared excerpts from President Tinubu’s recent address to newly appointed service chiefs.
In the message, Tinubu charged the security leaders to act decisively against new forms of criminal activity emerging across different regions of the country.
“Security threats are constantly evolving, constantly mutating. Of grave concern to our administration is the recent emergence of new armed groups in the North-Central, North-West, and parts of the South,” the president said.
“We must not allow these new threats to fester. We must be decisive and proactive. Let us smash the new snakes right in the head. Nigerians expect results, not excuses.”
Tinubu also urged the service chiefs to be “innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous,” assuring them of full government support to restore peace and stability nationwide.
“Let us deploy technology where necessary. We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” Tinubu said.
Onanuga’s comment comes amid growing online speculation and misinformation about alleged diplomatic tension between Nigeria and the United States. There has been no official statement from Washington or Abuja indicating any conflict or military threat.
The presidency has repeatedly maintained that religious persecution has no place in Nigeria, stressing that the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and protection for all citizens.
