A Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash between Katsina United and Barau FC ended in chaos on Saturday after a violent incident left Barau forward Nana Abraham severely injured.
The match, played at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, was tightly contested until Barau FC’s Orji Kalu scored in the 69th minute to level the game at 1–1. Moments after the equaliser, violence erupted in the stands and spilled onto the pitch.
According to reports and posts on the club’s official X (Twitter) account, some home fans allegedly attacked Nana Abraham, leaving him with a deep cut on his neck. Photos and videos circulating online show the player bleeding heavily while teammates and officials rushed to his aid.
Barau FC confirmed the attack with a live update that read:
“70’ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”
Security personnel quickly intervened and the match was temporarily suspended to restore order. The extent of Abraham’s injury remains unclear at this time, but he was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident has sparked outrage among football fans nationwide, with many calling on the NPFL and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to investigate and take strong disciplinary action against those involved.
