The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following reports that popular content creator and fast-rising Nollywood actor, Odira Nwobu, has passed away in South Africa.
According to information gathered by Politics Nigeria, Nwobu reportedly died over the weekend, just hours after spending the night out at a club. A member of his team confirmed the development in a phone conversation with the newspaper.
Frankline, a close associate of the actor, shared a series of emotional posts online, expressing disbelief and sorrow over Nwobu’s sudden passing.
“God, why! Odira, why leave us?” he wrote. “The call I received now was not a good one. Odiegwu.”
He added that Nwobu had appeared healthy and energetic only hours before.
“You were full of life even some hours ago in South Africa, and you even had your thanksgiving service just a few months ago. Many people came to celebrate with you. How can you return from South Africa lifeless? I am drowning in tears. Death is rude. I am heartbroken,” Frankline wrote.
Comedian Evan Okoro also reacted, posting a photo of Nwobu with the caption:
“How? No… I can’t believe this. Nooooo.”
Odira Nwobu was known for his comedic skits, engaging online presence, and roles in various Nollywood productions. His rising popularity had earned him a growing fanbase across Nigeria and beyond.
The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been officially disclosed, but tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders who are struggling to come to terms with the loss.
