Nigerian Woman Reveals Husband Divorced Her for Delivering Children Through Caesarean Section

A Nigerian woman, Sumayya Hamman Adama, has revealed that her husband divorced her because she delivered their two children through caesarean section. The Adamawa State native shared her emotional story on Sunday, November 16, 2025, while reacting to a Facebook post condemning men who shame their wives for giving birth via surgery.

Sumayya said her husband ended their marriage after the birth of their second child, insisting he could no longer remain with a woman who delivered through CS. She also disclosed that their first child passed away after the divorce.

“I have gone through this for the first and second birth. He divorced me because I was giving birth through CS. He cannot stay with me. But Alhamdulillah for everything. I lost the first baby. I am now with the second born. Alhamdulillah. May Almighty Allah reward and bless anyone that is going through hard times,” she wrote.

Her revelation came in response to a Facebook post by Buithat Hudu, who criticised men who belittle their wives for undergoing medically necessary childbirth procedures. Hudu condemned the stigma placed on women with caesarean scars, describing the attitude as ignorant and disrespectful.

“The way some men speak about their wives as if they were not birthed by a woman is nauseating. How do you attribute a caesarean section scar to the character of a woman? Your mother went through the same thing to bring you into the world. If you cherish your mother for bearing you, you should also cherish your wife for bearing your children,” Hudu wrote.
