Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described his political journey as nothing short of a miracle, saying his rapid rise through Nigeria’s political hierarchy was made possible only by divine intervention.
Jonathan spoke on Friday at a book launch held in Abuja to commemorate the 60th birthday of his former aide and renowned journalist, Dr Reuben Abati.
Reflecting on his career, the former president said,
“My political journey looks like a political miracle. From deputy governor to becoming the president of this country in under four years was a miracle. It is only God that made it possible.”
Jonathan’s statement highlighted the unpredictable nature of politics and how fate, in his view, played a major role in his success story.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr Abati for capturing parts of his political story in one of his books, How Goodluck Jonathan Became President. The former president commended Abati’s intellect, writing, and analytical skills, noting that it takes great insight to document the life of a public figure.
“I always like people who write about me because sometimes it is so difficult for you to even write about yourself. When people write about you, it makes more meaning,” Jonathan said. He added that he looks forward to reading the detailed account of his journey in Abati’s work.
