Military Widow Condemns ‘Painful Silence’ After Killing of Brigadier General in Maiduguri

A military officer’s wife has spoken out publicly against what she describes as an alarming silence following the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Maiduguri. In a video published by Punch on Monday, November 24, 2025, the widow delivered an emotional appeal, urging Nigerians and authorities to demand answers and ensure accountability.

The widow said she found it deeply troubling that the death of such a senior officer could occur with what she views as little visible response from the military hierarchy or the public. She questioned how a nation could remain quiet in the face of such an incident, saying:

“As a country, how have we let it get to this point where they kill a Brigadier General and nothing happens?”

She expressed anguish over what she described as a lack of solidarity, especially among military families. According to her, the quietness surrounding her husband’s death has intensified her grief. She recalled seeing individuals who, in her view, appeared unfazed by the loss, saying she was shocked at the absence of collective mourning or support.

The widow’s remarks come amid growing concerns about the rising number of security-related fatalities in Nigeria and the perceived lack of transparency surrounding them. Her comments have resonated deeply across social media, where many users have echoed her concerns and demanded clearer communication from military authorities.

Security analysts note that her public stance adds a critical human layer to a story that has otherwise been treated largely as a security matter. They say her message highlights the emotional toll on families left behind and underscores the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by service members and their loved ones.

Her appeal also raises broader questions about how the military handles internal accountability, particularly when incidents involve high-ranking officers. Many Nigerians have called for a formal update on the investigation into Brigadier General Uba’s death, urging authorities not to allow the case to fade from public attention.

The widow maintained that her husband’s death must not be ignored, stressing that silence only deepens distrust in the institutions tasked with protecting citizens. She urged the military to show transparency and for the public to speak up, warning that continued inaction could send a dangerous message about the value of human life and service.

Authorities have not yet issued a comprehensive statement on the circumstances surrounding the Brigadier General’s death, and calls for clarity continue to grow.
