Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records boss, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about his fears surrounding love, relationships, and marriage despite his success and fame.
The 42-year-old hitmaker, who was previously married in 2003 but divorced two years later, spoke candidly in a recent interview on HabbyFX’s YouTube channel on Monday, November 3, sharing how his views on love have evolved over the years.
“There are good ones, there are bad ones. My parents were madly in love before my mom died. We see examples like that that make you believe in relationships and crave it,” Don Jazzy said.
While love stories like his late parents’ inspire him, the Mavin boss admitted that the rise of public relationship scandals has made him cautious about commitment.
“We do have some bad examples, both from men and women. Some men are violent or chronic cheats. And when breakups play out on social media, people washing their dirty linen in public it gives me fear.”
Don Jazzy noted that vulnerability no longer comes easy for him.
“You try to be vulnerable with one person out there. I’m still waiting for God. They say when you find the one, you’ll have butterflies in your stomach,” he added with a smile.
Financial Fears and the Cost of Divorce
Beyond emotional fears, the music mogul revealed that financial risks in marriage also make him hesitant to remarry.
“A man has to lose half of all he’s worked for in his life those who don’t have a prenup, like in America. You see people who have struggled all their life, and after divorce, they have to split everything. All those things used to scare me. The money I’ve amassed is for my generation.”
‘I’m Single, But I’ve Dated Before’
When asked about his current relationship status, Don Jazzy confirmed he is single but has dated since his divorce.
“I’ve actually dated before. Currently, I’m single. Na fear, though God’s time is the best. I just want the right person. At the same time, I’m not sure if I’m the right person for somebody’s daughter.”
He added that he’s still growing and learning.
“Am I the ideal partner? Am I disciplined enough to be with one person? I pray to God to make me a better person. Over the years, I’ve become wiser I used to be a menace when I was younger.”
Creative Inspiration and Life Today
When asked about his favourite artists, Don Jazzy said he draws inspiration from many.
“It’s not easy to pick one. Even that siren I’m hearing now is giving me beat ideas,” he joked.
He went on to praise Johnny Drille, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, 2Baba, D’banj, and Olamide for their contributions to Nigerian music.
Now more reserved, Don Jazzy revealed that he spends most of his time indoors, relying on his team to handle operations.
“I’m always indoors house, office, or studio and they’re all close by. I have people capable of putting out fires once they arise. One can’t do it alone; even God doesn’t do everything by Himself.”
On matters of faith, the producer reaffirmed his belief in God but expressed caution toward organised religion.
“I believe in God, but nowadays I’m sceptical about churches with how things are now.”
