A Nigerian man has provided a deeper analysis of the now viral confrontation between naval officer Lieutenant A. M. Yerima and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The video, filmed during a heated land dispute in Abuja, has continued to dominate online discussions, with many Nigerians praising the officer’s composure in the face of political tension.
The incident, which captured Yerima standing his ground while maintaining a calm and disciplined posture, sparked widespread admiration across social media platforms. Numerous viewers described his demeanour as bold yet controlled, a stark contrast to the chaotic atmosphere surrounding the confrontation.
In a Facebook post that has gained significant traction, social media user Honour Oriretan claimed to have rewatched the video multiple times to observe the officer’s behaviour. His analysis focused heavily on one detail many viewers overlooked, which was the positioning of Lieutenant Yerima’s left hand.
Oriretan noted that throughout much of the encounter, the officer kept his left hand inside his pocket. While some online users dismissed it as a casual stance, Oriretan argued that the gesture was far from ordinary.
According to his assessment, the officer’s hand appeared to be concealing an object, possibly resembling a small firearm or tactical tool, which suggested a defensive precaution. He claimed that the posture allowed Yerima to remain vigilant, prepared, and able to react swiftly if the situation escalated.
He further explained that Yerima’s head movement and eye contact indicated that he was actively reading the environment, monitoring body language, and assessing the intentions of everyone around him, including Minister Wike and the officials present.
Oriretan described the officer’s approach as a demonstration of strategic awareness, stating that the hand in pocket gesture signalled both readiness and restraint, ensuring that the situation did not appear more volatile while still remaining prepared for danger.
Another moment that caught Oriretan’s attention was when Lieutenant Yerima received a phone call during the confrontation. In his breakdown, he pointed out that the officer immediately stepped aside, removed his hand from the pocket, and stood at attention as a sign of respect toward the senior officer on the line.
He also highlighted how Yerima subtly adjusted his uniform to cover the pocket, suggesting it was done to prevent bystanders and media from seeing what he believed was a concealed object. Oriretan suggested that the move prevented unnecessary panic among civilians who might misinterpret the situation.
In his analysis, Oriretan described a highly trained and disciplined officer who adapts seamlessly to different environments. He stated that Lieutenant Yerima is calm, gentle, and calculated in stable situations, yet fully capable of becoming bold and decisive in dangerous environments.
He praised the officer as well trained, intelligent, smart, and exceptionally aware of his surroundings. He noted that the composure displayed in the viral video was not accidental but the result of tactical training and professional discipline.
According to Oriretan, the placement of Yerima’s hand in his left pocket was not for fashion or style but a deliberate defence technique.
The analysis has added a new layer to public discussion as Nigerians continue to debate the officer’s actions and the broader implications of the clash. Many online users have echoed Oriretan’s claims, while others argue that the observations, although compelling, remain speculative.
Nonetheless, Lieutenant Yerima’s calm demeanour and disciplined posture have positioned him as a standout figure in the ongoing conversation surrounding security conduct, civilian relations, and political authority.
