A Nigerian man has sparked conversation online after discovering an unusual handwritten message on a ₦200 note he received as change from a commercial bus conductor.
The man, identified as Lola Okunrin, shared his experience in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he revealed that he noticed the message shortly after receiving the note during his commute.
“A lot of you are insane. This is the ₦200 change the conductor gave me this morning. Like why?” he wrote, sharing a photo of the note.
The ₦200 banknote, according to the image posted, had a message scribbled on it that read: “If you see this money, your life as good.”
The mysterious inscription quickly caught the attention of social media users, prompting humorous and puzzled reactions. While some found the message amusing, others speculated about its possible meaning or origin.
The post has since generated wide engagement online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences of finding messages or drawings on naira notes.
Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has repeatedly warned against writing or marking banknotes, describing such actions as a form of defacement that violates currency regulations.
A CBN spokesperson reiterated:
“Do not write on the Naira. Avoid folding, stapling, or crumpling banknotes. Keep the Naira clean and in good condition.”
Authorities continue to urge the public to handle currency responsibly and report cases of mutilated or defaced notes to the appropriate financial institutions.
