A young Nigerian lady has been left heartbroken after her long-awaited United Kingdom student visa was denied, just days after she purchased travel items from the popular online shopping platform Temu.
The lady, identified on TikTok as @firstladysarah0, shared her ordeal in a series of emotional posts that have since gone viral on social media. She expressed deep disappointment and confusion over the circumstances surrounding the visa rejection, which came after weeks of anticipation and financial investment.
According to her, she had applied for a UK student visa and paid for the priority service, expecting a quicker response. However, the process turned out to be both stressful and unsuccessful. She revealed that despite submitting all the required documents and fulfilling additional requests during her application, her visa was ultimately denied.
In her post, she claimed that during the interview stage, she was questioned by a Ghanaian official. She alleged that other applicants who were interviewed by foreigners received their visa approvals, suggesting that bias may have played a role in her rejection.
She wrote, “I got interviewed by a black man from Ghana, and those who got interviewed by white people got their visa approved. Imagine. Na black dey do black. Asking questions and stressing someone. They even delayed my application for a good five weeks. Very stressful situation. It is well.”
The young woman went on to explain that during the prolonged waiting period, her school had already resumed, which added to her frustration. In an effort to stay positive, she decided to order her travel essentials from Temu, believing that her visa approval was certain. Unfortunately, just after receiving her items, she was informed that her visa had been refused.
“I used faith to order from Temu only for my UK visa to get refused,” she lamented. “Inbox me, this content no go waste. Come and buy.”
Her story has sparked widespread reactions online, with many expressing sympathy and others debating the possible reasons behind her visa denial. Some social media users advised her not to lose hope, encouraging her to reapply or explore study opportunities in other countries.
Others pointed out that visa approvals are based on strict immigration criteria and not on the nationality or personal bias of the interviewers.
While it remains unclear whether her purchase from Temu had any real link to the decision, the incident has drawn attention to the growing frustration of Nigerian students facing visa challenges when seeking to study abroad.
As of now, the UK Home Office has not issued any official statement regarding her specific case. Meanwhile, @firstladysarah0 has continued to engage her followers on TikTok, using humor and faith to cope with the disappointment, while also attempting to sell the unused travel items she had bought in preparation for her journey.
