JUST IN: Italian Prime Minister Meloni Condemns Attacks on Christians in Nigeria

Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has strongly criticised the recent assaults on Christian communities in Nigeria, expressing deep concern over the growing wave of violence targeting religious groups in the country.

Her statement came after yet another disturbing incident in which schoolgirls and teachers were reportedly abducted by armed groups, adding to the long list of kidnappings that have shaken many communities across Nigeria.

Meloni described the continued attacks as completely unacceptable. She emphasised that the safety and protection of Christians in Nigeria must be treated as a priority by the authorities, especially as similar incidents have persisted despite national and international appeals.

In her words, “We firmly condemn the renewed violence that occurred today against Christian communities in Nigeria.” She stressed that the repeated nature of these assaults shows an urgent need for stronger and more effective security measures.

She also highlighted the universal importance of human rights, describing religious freedom as non negotiable. “Religious freedom is an inviolable right,” the Italian leader added, noting that no community should live in fear because of their faith.

Meloni urged Nigerian authorities to take decisive actions to secure Christian communities as well as other religious groups across the nation. She called for more proactive intelligence gathering, improved security deployment and a clearer strategy to prevent future attacks.

She further demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for recent acts of violence. “We call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these brutal attacks,” she said.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Italy stands firmly with all Nigerian victims and families who are currently facing trauma, fear and displacement due to terrorism and religiously motivated violence.

Her message, which was also shared on Facebook, renewed Italy’s solidarity with Nigerians affected by these tragic events. She noted that the international community continues to watch the situation closely and expects measurable steps from Nigerian authorities.

The renewed attacks come at a time when several communities across Northern Nigeria continue to suffer from repeated kidnappings, killings and raids linked to armed groups. Security analysts believe that the pattern of violence shows increasing boldness from criminal and extremist elements.

In a related development, Politics Nigeria previously reported growing concerns over the rising wave of school kidnappings and the pressure it has placed on families, local authorities and security agencies. The psychological and economic impact on affected communities remains severe.

The latest incident has once again amplified calls for urgent reforms, improved coordination among security agencies and stronger protection for vulnerable Christian communities across the country. Many Nigerians and international observers are urging the government to adopt a more aggressive, consistent and transparent security approach to bring lasting relief to affected regions.
