Human rights activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has condemned the escalating wave of insecurity across Nigeria, insisting that the country is currently under siege.
Yesufu, in a strongly worded post on her verified X handle on Friday, said the worsening attacks and mass abductions require urgent action rather than political propaganda.
According to her, the pattern of attacks suggests a disturbing level of coordination by terrorists, whom she fears may be abducting children to use as human shields.
“This is no longer the time for propaganda. Nigeria is under siege. Are our children being abducted to be used as human shields? There are coordinated attacks across Nigeria. Where is the coordinated response?” she asked.
Yesufu expressed strong displeasure with the National Assembly, accusing lawmakers of failing to act as the voices of the people at a time when Nigerians are under unprecedented threat.
“Where is the National Assembly? They are supposed to be the people’s voices. They are supposed to be the activists in government. What are they doing about the current spate of attacks in the country?
Have they called for an inquiry? Are they holding the executive accountable? Are they asking how the citizens are being protected?” she added.
Her comments come amid a disturbing rise in kidnappings and terrorist attacks, including the recent abduction of scores of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States.
These repeated attacks have fueled public outcry and renewed calls for a stronger and more coordinated national security response.
