A devastated Nigerian father has accused an Abuja-based medical facility, identified as Gidan Mangoro Hospital, of causing the death of his newborn baby due to alleged negligence over an unpaid bill.
In a viral video recorded inside the hospital, the grieving father, visibly shaken and in tears, alleged that the hospital staff refused to attend to his newborn child during delivery because he was unable to immediately provide the full payment of ₦8,000 required for a procedure.
According to him, his wife had been receiving antenatal care at the same hospital from the beginning of her pregnancy, and he had never defaulted on any payments until the day of delivery. He claimed that when he presented part of the money ₦3,000 to the nurse in charge, she allegedly insisted that the full amount must be paid before continuing with the procedure.
He said the delay left their baby unattended, and the newborn later developed complications which required oxygen support. The father revealed that the child was transferred from one hospital to another throughout the night but did not survive.
“Let the whole world hear. This is where my baby died. They killed my child in this hospital because of their incapability,” he said emotionally in the video.
He alleged that despite begging the staff to proceed with the delivery, they refused, insisting on full payment.
He further claimed that the hospital hid the news of the baby’s death from his wife, who was still admitted and reportedly unwell, by telling her the child had been taken to another facility.
“My wife is inside the hospital, she is not well. They lied to her that we took the baby to another hospital. All because of their carelessness,” he lamented.
As of the time of filing this report, the hospital has not issued any public response to the allegations. The circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be independently verified, and it remains unclear whether authorities have begun investigations into the claims.
The heartbreaking video has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough probe and justice for the bereaved family.
