Hollywood power couple George and Amal Clooney are reportedly facing turbulence in their 10-year marriage, following claims that the actor’s recent drinking habits have caused concern for his wife.
According to RadarOnline, Amal has allegedly “drawn a firm line” after George joked about getting “dumb drunk” following the Tony Awards in June. The 63-year-old actor had celebrated his Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, which earned him a Tony nomination for Best Actor.
In a candid interview with Esquire, George admitted that after months of abstaining during rehearsals, he went a little overboard celebrating his nomination.
“I caught up for all my abstinence in one night,” he said, adding that he was “sick all day the next day.”
However, sources claim Amal was not amused.
“She admired the effort he put into staying sober, but hearing him boast about getting ‘dumb drunk’ really upset her,” an insider revealed.
The source added that the human rights lawyer views moments like that as “a slippery slope” that could lead back to old habits.
“Amal warned him plainly that if he falls back into those habits, he’s risking everything.”
Reports suggest this isn’t the first time George’s drinking has caused tension. The Ocean’s Eleven star has previously joked about showing up to film sets “still drunk” early in his career.
A family friend reportedly told the outlet:
“Amal doesn’t find wild nights out charming or funny. She has a serious career, two young children, and a structured lifestyle. The last thing she wants is careless behavior disrupting their family life.”
Despite the rumors, sources close to George insist he’s not planning to make a habit of it.
“He insists this was a one-time mistake,” the insider said. “But Amal isn’t convinced.”
Whether this is a genuine marital strain or just a momentary hiccup remains to be seen — but fans are hoping the Clooneys can weather the storm.
