Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against pursuing a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump following Trump’s recent comments threatening possible military action against Nigeria.
Fani-Kayode gave the warning while delivering a lecture at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference held in Akure, Ondo State. He said any attempt by Tinubu to visit the White House under the current atmosphere could expose the president to unnecessary humiliation.
According to him, his warning was prompted by reports circulating in the media claiming that Tinubu was trying to secure a meeting with the American president.
Fani-Kayode described Trump as a leader who acts without restraint, calling him “unstable, unpredictable, and irrational.” He further alleged that Trump holds deep-seated hostility toward Africans, people of colour, and Muslims.
The former minister also drew on a reference familiar to Pentecostal circles, saying Trump’s conduct mirrors what they describe as a “Demastic anointing” — a term inspired by Demas, a companion of Apostle Paul who abandoned his calling due to worldly distractions.
He explained, “Trump’s behaviour reflects the same pattern. It is the kind of obsession with material things that caused Demas to lose his path.”
