Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, has expressed deep concern over the escalating wave of insecurity across Nigeria following a series of tragic incidents recorded in several states within the span of one week.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, the former minister outlined multiple attacks involving military personnel, schoolchildren, worshippers and community members, describing the situation as a national emergency that requires immediate attention.
Fani Kayode highlighted the ambush in Borno State where a Nigerian military general, Brigadier General Uba, and three soldiers were abducted and later killed. He noted that the incident has raised fresh worries about the safety of security operatives deployed in volatile regions.
In Kebbi State, more than twenty five schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga were kidnapped by armed attackers. The vice principal of the school was reportedly killed during the invasion, further intensifying public fear over the increasing vulnerability of educational institutions.
The former minister also cited reports from Zamfara State where sixty four civilians, including women and children, were abducted in Tsafe Local Government Area. In Kwara State, thirty eight worshippers were taken from a church in Eruku in another attack that has drawn widespread condemnation.
He also referenced incidents in Yobe, Borno and Sokoto States where community security volunteers, police officers, nursing mothers and farmers were either killed or abducted during coordinated assaults. In Niger State, more than fifty students of a Catholic school in Agwara were reportedly kidnapped, adding to the growing tension across the region.
Fani Kayode described the string of incidents as deeply alarming, noting that the frequency, spread and severity of the attacks demand urgent action from security agencies and government authorities.
All this in just one week. May God save Nigeria, he wrote, urging citizens to remain vigilant while calling on the government to intensify efforts toward restoring peace and stability.
Security agencies have yet to release a consolidated national briefing on the incidents, but operations are ongoing in several affected communities as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
